Calculation of Potential Distribution in the Vicinity of Photoconductive Drum and Rotating High Resistive Roller with Particle Method

A numerical method to analyze the potential distribution involved in the transport of charge due to the rotation of a resistive roller in the electrophotographic process is proposed. This method is based on the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method, which is a particle method using a smoothing function often used in fluid analysis. The potential equation and the continuity equation are discretized with calculation-points instead of particles as in SPH. The validity of the method in the electrostatic and conductive analysis is confirmed using the model, strict solution of which is known. The transport of charge due to the rotation of a roller is performed by the movement of the calculation-points according to the rotation of a roller. Using the proposed method, the potential distribution on the surface of the rotating roller with a bias voltage is calculated for various peripheral velocities and resistivities, and the dependences of the potential distribution on the velocity and resistivity are obtained.
