We discuss the hue analysis of photo-controllable coloring (P. C. C.) films. This P. C. C. films consists of an anisotropically molecular oriented polymer film laminated between two polarizing films. The analysis was based on both methods of CIE-XYZ and CIE-L*a*b* display systems established by Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (C. I. E.). Furthermoe, we proposed a new method of analyzing hue for the P. C. C. films.<BR>The results were Summarized as the follow : <BR> (1) The hues of P. C. C. film is determined by retardation of the anisotroically molecular oriented film.<BR> (2) The hues of P. C. C. film is independent on the kind of polymer used for the anisotropically oriented film.<BR> (3) The hue of the P. C. C. film in which two polarizing films are set parallel to each other is the complementary hue of that film in which two polarizing films are set perpendicular to each other.<BR> (4) It is clarified that the new method is more easy and reasonable to analyze the hue of the P. C. C. films than C. I. E. methods.<BR> (5) This new method also provides easier way to design the hue for P. C. C. films.<BR> (6) The "iridescence" of P. C. C. film is due to a change of optical path length through the oriented film.
