In order to analyze fabric feeding behavior of sewing machine with drop feed during sewing operation without the needle, pressure of pressure foot and fabric feeding behavior, i. e., tensions, feed lengths, accelerations of the upper and lower fabrics were measured.<BR>To measure the pressure, following two methods were used. One measured the pressure with four strain gauges bonded on the pressure bar, the other with gauges bonded on the feed bar.<BR>The experimental results are summarized as follows : 1) Feeding length is dependent on arm shaftspeed and a pressure of the pressure foot. 2) μM-F, μF-F andμF-M represent coefficient of dynamic friction between the pressure foot and the upper fabric, between the upper fabric and the lower fabric, and between the lower fabric and a feed dog, respectively.<BR>The experiment shows that if there exists followingrelation among those coefficients a good feeding condition will be achieved : μM-F<μF-M<μF-F
