In this paper, the flow pattern developed by the additional deformed portion on the one side of the canal wall are investigated with respect to the floating effect on a yarn setting atthe opposite side of a canal wall. in a two-dimensional flow model. The additional portion are constructed of various shape of cavity or projection which meets at right angles with the flow dierection.
The measurement of pressure distribution on the both walls produced by the air flow and the flow visualization by water are carried out experimentally. Those experimental results are compared with numerical results by the finite element method, and a good agreement exists between the calculations and the experiments.
The numerical solution verified by the experimental results suggests the effective dimensional shape of cavity on the retrieving of a yarn end.
