We evaluated the clinical efficacy and safety of sparfloxacin, a new quinolone, in 20 patients with complicated urinary tract infections. The efficacy rates, judged by the criteria of the Japanese UTI Committee and a doctor's evaluation, were both 50%. In 11 cases with an indwelling catheter, the rate was 27.3% by the doctor's evaluation. The bacteriological eradication rate was 80.0%.<BR>There were no side effects or abnormal laboratory findings due to treatment.
