Eleven patients of surgical infection were treated with pivaloyloxymethyl D-α-aminobenzyl-penicillinate hydrochloride (MK-191), a derivative of D (-) -α-aminobenzylpenicillin. Although a therapeutic effect may be influenced by surgical incision or drainage. Effective responses were obtained in 7 patients of acute soft tissue infection or postoperative wound infection, fair in 3 of postoperative wound infection, Douglas abscess or cholelithiasis and no response in 1 patient. Side effects of the drug such as epigastralgia, pyrosis and thirst feeling were observed in 4 patients.
