1. We determined the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs)(106 CFU/ml) of cefdinir (CFDN), cephalexin (CEX), cefatrizine (CFT) and methicillin (DMPPC) against 78 strains of <I>Staphylococcus aureus</I> isolated from skin lesions. The MICs of CFDN were 0.2μg/ml in 25 strains and 0.39μg/ml in 25 strains.<BR>The MICs of CEX were 3.131μ/ml in 36 strains and z 100μg/ml in 18 strains. The MIC of CFT was 0.78μg/ml in 48 strains, and that of DMPPC was 1.56μg/ml in 41 strains.<BR>2. Plasma and skin levels after oral administration (100mg) were determined in patients. The ratio of skin/plasma levels was 0.38 (n=3).<BR>3. CFDN was used clinically in 16 cases of skin infection and the following results were obtained: excellent in 5, good in 6, fair in 3 and poor in 2 cases. As to side effects and abnormal laboratory findings, edematous erythema, loose stools and dull headache, and positive urine sugar were observed in 1 case.
