CARUMONAM IN THE FIELD OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY

To investigate the utility of carumonam in obstetrics and gynecology concentrations of the drug in pelvic dead space exudate and milk were determined and, in addition, the utility of the drug in patients was evaluated.<BR>When 1g of the drug was administered by drip infusion over a 60-min period, its serum concentration registered 75.30μg/ml at completion of drip infusion, then declined rapidly and was 1.0μg/ml at 8 h after initiation of administration. The transfer of the drug to the exudate in the pelvic dead space reached a peak of 15.10μg/ml at 3 h after initiation of drip infusion, then declined slowly and stood at 5.77μg/ml even at 8h.<BR>After intravenous injection of carumonam 1g, the concentration of the drug in milk was 0.44μg/ml at 1h after administration and 0.15μg/ml at 6 h.<BR>The drug was administered to 3 patients with infection in the obstetric and gynecologic field and favorable responses were obtained in all cases.
