1) Twenty-one patients suffering from complicated urinary tract infection (12 upper U.T.I. and 9 lower U.T.I.) were triated with cefmenoxime (CMX, SCE-1365.) 2) Cefmenoxime was administrated 1, 000 mg and 2, 000 mg daily by intramuscular injection, intravenous injection or drip infusion for 5 days. 3) The results were excellent in 6 cases, moderate in 10 cases, poor in 5 cases and the rate of effectiveness was 76.2%. 4) In 12 cases with chronic complicated pyelonephritis, it was excellent in 5 cases, moderate in 4 cases and poor in 3 cases (the rate of effectiveness was 75%). In 7 cases with lower complicated U.T.I.(complicated cystitis 7, infection after prostatectomy 2), it was excelent in 1 cases, moderate in 6 cases and poor in 2 cases (the rate of effectiveness was 77.8%). The rate of effectiveness in 7 cases with indwelling catheter was 57.1% while it was 85.7% in 14 cases without indwelling catheter. 5) Bacteriological outcome was as follows: eradicated in 23 strains (71.9%), persisted in 9 strains (28.1%) out of 32 strains isolated. 6) As a side-effect, temporal elevation of S-GOT and S-GP T was observed in 2 cases.
