The authors have devised a proper test method of evaluating stretch yarn with the view to predict the stretchability of woven stretch fabrics. They also tried to find a relation between the structure and the stretchability. Clarifying the relation will be of great use for designing the marketable woven stretch fabrics.<BR>1) For evaluation of stretch properties of stretch yarns, to measure crimp rigidity is the best method. The measurement of the crimp rigidity is made by adding a 2mg/d light load and 100mg/d heavy load after heat treatment of sample yarns at 100°C (wet temperature) in a free state.<BR>2) The stretch Δf of woven stretch f abrics is composed by the structure stretch Δc and the yarn stretch Δy by taking the length lr of the stretch yarns (released out of the fabrics) as parameter. (Δf=Δc+Δy)<BR>If the fabrics are of jam construction, the stretchability is expressed in the following formula.<BR>Δf∝Δc+(C.R)·(M/D)·f(d)<BR>where C·R; crimp rigidity of stretch yarns<BR>M ; coefficient of interlacing<BR>D ; density of interlacing non-stretch yarns of fabrics on loom<BR>f(d) =1/{d0 sinθ+(M-1)d}<BR>d; diameter of non-stretch yarns<BR>d′; diameter of stretch yarns<BR>d0=d+d′<BR>The above formulas show that the stretchability is proportional to yarn crimp rigidity and coefficient of interlacing, but is in inverse relation to the diameter and density of interlasing non-stretch yarns of fabrics on looms.
