Mode of occurrence of the schistose amphibolite, which is found at Iso-o as spindleshaped body (or bodies) in "Yakuno Intrusives", has been briefly reported by Ch. Mitsuno in 1965, but at that time petrographic properties of the rock were left unexplained. The occurrence of such metamorphic rocks as now concerned is relatively rare in the Okayama Prefecture, but not rare in the Maizuru zone east of the Okayama Prefecture. This paper dealt with the petrography of the schistose amphibolite, and results of the study seem to support the following conclusions: (1) The schistose amphibolite may belong to the amphibolite facies of a regional metamorphism, though type of metamorphism by which the rock was produced and its original rock are both yet unknown, and (2) The schistose amphibolite may be a block (or blocks) derived from a part of the basement rocks which are overlaid with the Paleozoic formations of the Chugoku Province.
