A Case of Cecal, Sigmoidal, and Peritoneal Recurrence of Goblet Cell Carcinoid of the Appendix 9 Years after Appendectomy

A 57-year-old female patient was admitted to our hospital complaining of epigastralgia and vomiting. Using computed tomography, we diagnosed small intestine obstruction by cecal cancer, and performed ileocecal resection on the same day. Goblet cell carcinoid was diagnosed histopathologically. She had undergone an appendectomy 9 years previously, when the histopathological examination was goblet cell carcinoid. Therefore, we diagnosed that the cecal tumor was a recurrence of the goblet cell carcinoid. Six months after this operation, she experienced recurrence at the sigmoid colon and peritonea.<BR>Goblet cell carcinoid of the appendix is a rare and high-grade tumor. In this case, the recurrence occurred 9 years after the appendectomy. We report this rare case of cecal, sigmoidal, and peritoneal recurrence of goblet cell carcinoid of the appendix 9 years after appendectomy, with a review of the literature.
