A Study on the Housing Reconstruction System : Based on the Experiences in the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake

This study aims to learn the changes in the living circumstances of both those who reconstructed their houses in the quake-stricken, urban residential areas and those who moved into post-disaster public housing, and to determine what the aid for housing reconstruction should be through a comparison of evaluations of their livelihoods and communities. The results of the survey indicated that the overall evaluation concerning the sense of the restoration's completion, neighborly relationships, stability of residency, etc., were higher in the case of those who reconstructed their homes in the urban residential area. It became clear that the housing reconstruction system in the future should aid reconstruction in the quake-stricken, urban residential areas to the greatest extent possible.
