The reaction mechanism of vinyl interchange reaction was investigated using acetic acid labeled with O18 as tracer. In the interchange reaction of vinylacetate and acetic acid using mercuric(II)salts(HgSO4, HgO, 3HgO·SO3)as catalyst, the following experiment was performed to reveal the severed parts in these compounds.<BR> CH3CO18O18H+CH3COOCH=CH2 ⇔ CH3CO18O18CH=CH2+CH3COOH By the obtained determining results of O18concentration in the reaction equilibrium, the concentration ratio of O18atomic percentage became 1. Thus it was confirmed by this experiment that the reaction occurred by exchaning the vinyl group of vinylacetate and hydrogen in carboxyl group of acetic acid.
