Many data have been reported of the heat of vaporization at the boiling point, but little is known of them at about room temperature. So the heats of vaporization of alcohols, halogenated hydrocarbons and benzene at about room temperature were determined. The vapor pressure was determined by gas chromatography, and the heat of vaporization was calculated from Clausius-Clapeyron's equation. The method employed for the determination of the vapor pressure is as follows: the flask with a piston to push out the saturated vapor of the sample was connected with the gas-sampler, and the vapor pressure at equilibrium with the liquid phase was determined with use of a gas chromatographic technique at below the room temperature. A plot of the logarithm of the vapor pressure obtained in this method agrainst the reciprocal temperature is found to be good linearlity, and the heat of vaporization can be obtained within 6.5% of the relative error for the calculated value.
