Spin-trapping in γ-irradiated solutions of chlorinated hydrocarbons in benzene by using 2,4,6-tri-<I>t</I>-butylnitrosobenzene revealed that transient free radicals are generated almost exclusively by the dissociative electron attachment to the solutes. This provides a simple, useful method for preparing the authentic spin-adducts of hydrocarbon radicals.
