The ESR spectra of nitrogen atoms were detected for the first time in the combustion flames of methane doped with ammonia. The dependence of the N-atom concentration on the flame conditions was examined. The results were then discussed with reference to the models of the reduction of NH<SUB>3</SUB>, leading to the NO formation.
