A technique to regenerate catalysts used for the simultaneous abatement of NO<I>x</I> and SO<I>x</I> in flue gases was investigated. Formation of sulfate ions on the metal which is an active component of the catalyst was proved to be a poison for the catalysis. The most effective means to remove the sulfate ions on the catalyst is to heat the used catalyst at 300 °C in NH3–water vapor.
