A regenerative half cell presented here: TiO<SUB>2</SUB>(Ag)–Ag<SUP>+</SUP> can be photochemically charged by irradiation of the TiO<SUB>2</SUB> surface with sunlight. Electrical energy is extracted from it by connection through the load with a suitable half cell which has a more positive electrode potential than Ag–Ag<SUP>+</SUP>.
