Highly selective 1,2-reduction of conjugated α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds such as enones and unsaturated aldehydes has been achieved by NaBH<SUB>4</SUB>/LnCpCl<SUB>2</SUB>(THF)<SUB>3</SUB> (Ln=Sm and Er) in MeOH under ambient conditions.
