Ultrasonic irradiation of α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds <B>1a–i</B> with acetonitrile in the presence of potassium <I>t</I>-butoxide gave 3-cyano-2-methylpyridines <B>2a–i</B> in moderate to good yields. The pyridines are produced by a Michael reaction of 3-iminobutanonitrile, an acetonitrile dimer, to the substrates <B>1a–i</B>.
