• (Eight 9-substituted 9-(2′-bromomethylphenyl)fluorene derivatives) (<B>1</B>) were prepared. Their conformational equilibria (<I>ap</I>\rightleftarrows<I>sp</I>) are discussed on the basis of kinetic data for internal rotation obtained by <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR spectroscopy.
