• Convenient and general syntheses of condensed phenalenones with various ring systems fused at the 7 and 8-positions are described together with the synthesis of indeno[1,2-<I>a</I>]phenalene-6,8-dione (quinone) and the formation of its di-cationic species in strong acidic media.
