The thermal reaction of <I>N</I>-[(3-oxo-2-cyclohexenyl)imino]triphenylphosphorane with α-bromo ketones and α,β-unsaturated ketones underwent an enamine-type alkylation and a subsequent aza-Wittig reaction to give substituted 1,5,6,7-tetrahydro-4<I>H</I>-indol-4-ones and 7,8-dihydro-5(6<I>H</I>)-quinolinones albeit in modest yields.
