The main product, <B>A</B> obtained from the interaction of concentrated sulfuric acid with <I>trans</I>-2,3-dichloro-1,4-dioxane has been shown by a single crystal X-ray structure analysis to be the <I>trans</I>–<I>trans</I> <I>meso</I>-stereoisomer of 4,4′, 5,5′-tetrachloro-2,2′-bi-1,3-dioxolane.
