Petasitolone(I), a new sesquiterpene isolated from <I>Petasites japonicus</I> Maxim, has been shown to be 8-oxo-11-hydroxy-<I>Δ</I><SUP>6(7)</SUP>-eremophilene by a physico-chemical method, and synthesized from the known fukinone(VI).
