The following sequential polypetides of L-leucine and glycine were synthesized: (Leu3Gly)<I>n</I>, (Leu2Gly)<I>n</I>, (LeuGly)<I>n</I>, and (LeuGly2)<I>n</I>. Polymerization was achieved by self-condensation of the corresponding peptide <I>p</I>-nitrophenyl esters. Hydrolysis of the polypeptides were carried out in 90% aqueous trifluoroacetic acid and the time course of liberation of leucine from each polymer was presented. Apparent first-order rate constants (×102), 1.93, 2.86, 2.91, and 4.4 hr−1 were obtained for liberation of leucine from (Leu3Gly)<I>n</I>, (Leu2Gly)<I>n</I>, (LeuGly)<I>n</I>, and (LeuGly2)<I>n</I>, respectively.
