Three isomeric iodotrimethylpivalophenones and iodotetramethylpivalophenones have been prepared from the corresponding polymethylbenzenes by using the Perrier procedure of the Friedel-Crafts acylation, followed by the iodination of the resulting ketones with iodineperiodic acid dihydrate. Attempts to convert some of these hindered iodoketones to bis (pivaloyl)polymethylbenzenes <I>via</I> the Grignard reagent have failed.
