The pyridine exchange reaction in the pyridine adduct of bis(salicylaldehydato)nickel(II) becomes appreciably slower and its activation energy increases with the decrease of the electron donor properties of the in-plane ligand. However, changes in the spin delocalization onto the coordinated pyridine by the in-plane ligand appear small.
