• It has been found that treatment of 3-bromotropolon-5-yl-thiourea derivatives with a base resulted in facile formation of 7-hydroxycyclohepta[d] thiazol-6-one derivatives, with liberation of hydrogen bromide. Out of such products, 2-benzamido derivative was submitted to oxidative degradation and its structure was confirmed.<BR>Reaction of 3-bromo-5-aminotropolone and carbon disulfide, in the presence of a tertiary amine, was found to form a 2-mercapto derivative. Correlation of this product with the foregoing products proved the structure.
