In August, 1961, an exploration was made for the second time at the northern part of the Kitakami mountains, northern Japan, by the members of the Spelaeological Society of Japan and of the Japanese Caving Association, with the support of the Asahi and of the authorities of the town of Iwaizumi-chô. Although the main purpose of this exploration is to investigate an enormous, limestone cave called Akka-dô, several other limestone caves situated in the same area are also visited during the expedition. In this paper, is reported a chiropterous thanatocenose found in Kisôji-ana Cave at Shittaka, in the Akka area. It was discovered at the bottom of a limestone pool (50 cm in diameter and 10 cm in depth), mingled with pebbles and sand. Numerous remains of two species of bats were obtained: more than 31 individuals of tube-nosed bat (Murina leucogaster) and 48 ones of long-winged bat (Miniopterus schreibersi) in about one litre of deposit. Origin of the thanatocenose is discussed and compared with fossil chi ropterous thanatocenose.
