Clinical effectiveness of dilazep in the treatment of vertigo.

From April 1984 to August 1985 dilazep hydrochloride was administered to 37 patients (15 males and 22 females), 22 with peripheral vertigo, 9 with central vertigo, and 6 with vertigo, for 8 weeks.1)Slight improvement or better was noted in 86.5% and moderate or better improvement 59.5%. The final assessment of object findings, equilibrium function and auditory test findings, showed slight or better improvement in 58.8% and moderate or better improvement in 32.4%.2) The global improvement ratings which combined subjective symptoms and objective findings, showed slight or better improvement in 86.5% and moderate or better improvement in 59.5%.3)The global utility ratings of over all effectiveness were " slightly satisfactory " or better in 86.5% and " satisfactory " in 62.2%.4) Administration for 8 weeks caused the improvement rates to be significantly higher than at 4 weeks.5)Improvement rates were higher in patients with acute central or peripheral vertigo.6)Improvement rates were higher when the symptoms had been present for less than 3 months.7) Only one patient (2.7%) had an adverse reaction: slight dryness of the mouth.
