• A 15-year-old girl, who had received tracheotomy and intubation with a cuffed tube for one month after head injury, was sent to our neurosurgery clinic for treatment of persisting unconsciousness. On day two after admission, the tube was inadvertently removed and progressive tracheal stenosis gradually developed at the site where the cuff was situated.Forty-eight days after the removal of the tube, severe dyspnea developed and emergency surgical dilatation was carried out using a transurethra resectscope under NLA general anesthesy. By cutting and absorption of the scar, the stenosis was dilated from 2mm to 10mm in diameter and dyspnea was immediately alleviated. A noncuffed tube of the same size was inserted and left in place for 4 months after operation.No sign of re-stenosis was observed after removal of the tube and the tracheotomy stoma was closed 6 months after admission.
