Ten cases of brain tumor were observed from three otological points of view ----- pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry and auditory adaptation. The phenomenon of marked adaptation and reduction of speech perception strikingly disproportionate to threshold for pure tones, was most conspicuous when the site of lesion is in the first neuron. Then the author presumed that marked adaptation is one of the important contributing factors to the reduction of speech discrimination. In cases of supratentorial tumor, the same phenomenon has been observed by the direct or indirect application of pressure on brain stem, and there was no close relationship between the side of brain lesion and the impaired ear in auditory acuity.
