The safety of HOPA was evaluated by chronic toxicity and teratogenicity tests and the following results were obtained. 1. HOPA was given orally in a dose of 1 and 2g/kg for 6 months in rats in the chronic toxicity test and no significant difference was noted in the weight gain, feed intake, dissection findings, weight of the organs and histological changes as compared with the control. 2. In the teratological test, 1 and 2g/kg of HOPA was given orally to pregnant rats and mice, respectively, every day from the 7th to 14th day of gestation. No effect attributable to HOPA was found in either the foetus or the newborn.
