AFO (Ankle-Foot-Orthosis) with KBM socket was applied in the treatment of patients with spina bifida who had functional muscle power in the quadriceps. Six patients, between the ages of three and twenty-one years, were treated. They were classified into the Sharrard's classification of group 3 and 4. Five patients had marked improvement in their gait. One developed contact dermatitis. Compared with AFO without KBM socket and KAFO (Knee-Ankle-Foot-Orthosis), AFO with KBM socket is characterized by the following points: 1. AFO with KBM socket improves toe-in gait. 2. AFO with KBM socket gives firm support to the knee and stabilizes the foot.
