Clinical experiences of treatment with gentamycin beads for bone and soft tissue infections.

Implantation of gentamycin beads (Septopal) was applied to 7 cases of osseous or soft tissue infections, including 4 post-traumatic, 2 post-operative and 1 chronic hematogenous osteomyelitis, and to 2 cases for prevention of infection in open wound. Long-term applicatioin was employed to 5 cases, and short-term application to 4 cases. Good results were obtained in 6 cases and poor results in 3 cases. The reasons of poor results were thought to be: 1) insufficient focal curettage, 2) remained foreign bodies, and 3) Gentamycin resistant bacteria.
