Review of scoliosis detected by moire topography for school screening.

For the last 8 years 72, 412 total students from the fifth grade of primary school and the second grade of middle school have been screened for idiopathic scoliosis in the Miyazaki district by Moire Topographical analysis. The average positive rate was 2.02 percent in grade V primary school boys, 2.69 percent in grade V girls, 2.62 percent in grade II middle school boys, and 4.37 percent in grade II girls. Scoliosis with a Cobb's angle of over 15 degrees was found roentgenographically, in 0.12 percent of boys in V grade and 0.48 percent of girls; 0.42 percent of boys in II grade, and 2.09 percent of the girls. The false positive rate of Moire Topographical Screening was found to be 94 percent in grade V boys in primary school, 82 percent in grade V girls, 84 percent in grade II boys, and 53 percent in grade II girls of middle school.
