Treatment Results of Trochanteric Fractures in Elderly Patients, with emphasis on QOL.

This study evaluated the treatment results in patients aged over 65 years with trochanteric fractures, with particular emphasis on QOL.We investigated QOL of 87 patients after discharge from our hospital by questionnaire.The evaluation used the summarized Sickness Impact Profile (SIP) for patients who were still alive and the duration of independence of ADL was assessed for cases that had died.Results were as follows;1. We had a 65.5% return rate for our questionnaire (57 cases) with 28 cases alive and 29 cases were found to be dead.2. The summarized SIP scores averaged 61.2 points in 17 cases who lived with their families, 61.0 points in 4 cases who lived alone and 48.0 points in 5 cases who resided in nursing homes for the aged.3. The QOL of the cases who had since died significantly related to the duration of independence of ADL.
