The twist shrinkage and the twist moment are discussed both experimentally and theoretically. It is found experimentally that the twist shrinkage X are expressed by the following equation as a function of yarn twist n, yarn fineness D, and tension P during twisting, <BR>X=A<SUB>1</SUB>Dn<SUP>2</SUP>-A<SUB>2</SUB>(D)nP, A<SUB>1</SUB>Dn<SUP>2</SUP>>>A<SUB>2</SUB>(D)nP<BR>where A<SUB>1</SUB>, and A<SUB>2</SUB>(D)are the characteristics of the yarn properties. It is verified theoretically that two facts shown below are appoxicnately equivalent.<BR>1) Twist shrinkage is propotional to yarn fineness and the square of yarn twist.<BR>2) Neutral radius is independent of yarn twist and is proportional to the square root of yarn fineness.<BR>The twist moment is derived theoretically as a function of the yarn geometry. As the conclusion, it is shown that when twisting is performed under the constant tension the twist moment will be proportional to the cube of the yarn twist and the yarn finenss approximately.
