The present investigation is an attempt to study the effect of light upon the behavior of fish in twilight vision, in which visual pigments in the outer segments of rods are strongly bleached. The optomotor reaction in albino and pigmented moenkhausia Moenkhausia sanctaefillomenae and rose bitterling Rhodeus ocellatus ocellatus were examined after light and dark adaptation.Albino individuals were less reactive than pigmented ones, and the reaction was inferior in the case of light conditions with similar absorbance to the visibility by individuals. These results suggest that light, similar to the visibility of fish, may possibly inhibit theonset of visual behavior. The method of utilization of fish lamps ought to be given all due consideration in light fishing.
