Thermal analysis was made of BR with different cis-contents and IR raw rubber with high cis and thereby the difference in thermal stability between BR and IR was confirmed.<BR>In T.G.A. under inert gas, unlike in the presence of oxygen, BR exhibited an earlier start of apparent decomposition, which is interpreted as follows; In the presence of oxygen, BR with strong oxygen absorption and strong crossliking tendency forms a hard oxidized surface, thereby retarding the generation of vola tile gases and accordingly shifting the decomposition-start point farther to the high temperature side thanunder inert gas, while IR, which makes fast decomposition, behaves differently. Meanwhile, in D. T.A., BRpresents a sharp thermal peak regardless of the cis-content. Gelation of BR is the faster, the higher its ciscontent, but even at the same cis-content, there are differences depending on the molecular weight distribution.
