<I>IN VITRO</I> EFFECT OF SEROTONIN ON GLYCOGENOLYSIS IN RAT LIVER SLICES

1. In vitro effect of serotonin on hepatic glycogenolysis was observed. Serotonin creatinine sulfate as low as 50μg per ml significantly decreased glycogen content in rat liver slices.<BR>2. Additional dose of serotonin to the medium containing 50μg of epinephrine caused a further stimulation on glycogen breakdown. Therefore serotonin would act in a different manner from epinephrine.<BR>3. The mechanism was discussed for serotonin-induced glycogenolysis which was somewhat similar to that elicited by DBI (phenethylbiguanide).
