An attempt was made to detect and separate aromatic sulfonic acids as their 4'-hydroxyanilides on silica gel thin layers. These derivatives were visualized sensitively by spraying of ammoniacal silver nitrate solution on thin layers. The detection limit e. g. for 4-toluene sulfonic acid was 0.04μg. Separations of 4'-hydroxyanilides of monosulfonic and disulfonic acids and of those with different substituent groups were succesful, but mutual separation of isomers, except for anisol sulfonic acids, was not effected.<BR><I>Rf</I> values for 4'-hydroxyanilides of mono-substituted benzene sulfonic acids obeyed the following formula given by L.
