This review consists of two parts. The first part deals with hydrogen-bonding which plays the important role in several fundamental organic reactions, such as acyl transfer reactions affected by water structure, oxidation-reduction, aromatic nucleophilic substitution, cycloaddition, mechanism of the suppression of the recemization in peptide synthesis in addition to cyclic peptides, alkylation and so forth. In the following part, the progress in the field of bioorganic chemistry is described by showing some attempts which are extensively being carried out by utilizing hydrogen- bonding and also by mimicking the enzymatic process to develop efficent syntheses and synthetic catalysts.
