An increasing number of papers concerning polymer-anchored reagents and catalysts have been appeared during the past decade due to the specific advantages for organic synthesis.<BR>This article describes characteristic features of insoluble resins as supports, reagents or catalysts; this includes the high-dilution or pseudodilution effect, stabilization of reagents and catalysts, site-site isolations, and site-site interactions. Subsequently, applications to organic reactions of these reagents, such as asymmetric synthesis on polymer backbone, cyclization reaction, capture of reactive intermediates, and phase-transfer reactions are also included. Merits and limitations using polymeric reagents and catalysts are discussed.
