Polymorphism of GPT was detected in human urine by an isoelectric focusing technique. Three phenotypes, GPT 1, GPT 2A, and GPT 2A-1, were determined by two common alleles, GPT1 and GPT2A. Paired erythrocyte and urine samples from the same individuals were analyzed, and it was found that the phenotyping of 120 subjects from the erythrocytes agreed with the typing results obtained from the urine samples. The estimated gene frequencies of GPT1 and GPT2A among the Japanese were 0.632 and 0.368, respectively.
