A resected case of primary liver cancer with many Glisson's sheaths in the cancerous tissue.

We report a resected case of combined hepatocellular and cholangiocarcinoma with many residual Glission's sheaths within the cancerous tissue. The patient was a 56-year-old man and was admitted to the hospital because of abdominal mass with a suspicion of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). On angiography and computed tomography, the tumor showed unusual findings as HCC. The resected tumor was a whitish hard mass measuring 10×6×4.5cm. Histologically, the tumor consisted of two elements of HCC and cholangiocarcinoma with abundant stroma, even in the part of HCC. In addition, many Glisson's sheaths were observed within the cancerous tissue, and it was considered that those Glisson's sheaths might have been retained by infiltrative cancer. It was also considered that unusual findings of the imaging diagnosis might be caused by abundant fibrous stroma and many residual Glisson's sheaths within the cancerous tissue.
