The relation between life-style related diseases and geographical features were studied based on age-adjusted death rates in 1995. In addition the mortality rates from such diseases within Gunma Prefecture were studied concerning to geographical features and mass screening data. In districts where there are many cases of cerebrovascular disease exist, many cases of gastric cancer and fewer cases of lung cancer were shown.<BR>Areas that had a high rates of breast cancer also had high rates of ischemic heart disease and colon cancer. According to multiple regression analysis, meat consumption was the main negative variable in cerebrovascular disease, on the other hand, it was the main positive variable in lung cancer. Per capita annual income contributded to breast cancer, and population density contributed to ischemic heart disease and colon cancer as the main positive variable respectively.<BR>In regard to this study within Gunma Prefecture, many cerebrovascular diseases were seen in the same gro grahical area where many gastric cancers exist. Such districts also were characterized by a higher prevalence of hypocholesterolemic cases. In addition many breast cancer cases exist in an area that shows higher stature measurements and fewer hypocholesterolemic cases.
