A case of multiple nodular hyperplasia of the non-cirrhotic liver associated with bleeding in the nodule, saved by right hepatic lobectomy.

We reported a case of a 27-year-old man with multiple nodular hyperplasia of the non-cirrhotic liver. He had liver injury by traffic accident 6 years ago, but no liver disease, systemic disease and taking a drug in his past. He admitted to the hospital with a chief complaint of right hypochondralgia. Laboratory examination revealed leukocytosis and anemia. US, CT, angiography revealed liver tumor with bleeding in the right hepatic lobe. In the emergency operation we found multiple nodules in the bilateral hepatic lobes. We found subcapsuler hematoma at the liver surface of the right posterior segment. We performed right hepatic lobectomy for saving his life. In macroscopic finding the nodules, the size of which 0.5-8cm, about over 10 in number, did not have capsule and compressed the normal liver tissue. In microscopic finding the liver cells in the nodules including distorted portal tract revealed no cellular atypism. The reticulum pattern was produced by plates of hepatocytes more than one cell in thickness. As above we diagnosed this case multiple nodular hyperplasia of the non-cirrhotic liver. Macro- and microscopic findings of this case were different from that of reported nodular regenerative hyperplasia (NRH) and partial nodular transformation (PNT). However, we thought its pathogenesis was similar to that of NRH and PNT.
